KIMONO OBESSION: HOW TO MIX IT WITH A CASUAL OUTFIT

This is one of the most seen streetstyle trends. We've seen it in magazines, in the streets, on Instagram. And like every trend, you either like it or hate it. Personally, I LOVE IT! To be honest, I have been wearing kimono for years. Such a trendsetter - kidding ! Kimonos are one of closet's basics. Why?

First of all, I love all the tiny details that compose them. A nice kimono has a great fabric, otherwise it is just a boring jacket. If you do not like printed or flowery kimonos, you should know that some variations exist. You can go for texturized ones for example.

The second reason why I love so much kimonos is that they match with almost everything as long as it is minimalistic. Super easygoing! You can wear over a swimsuit, a dress, shorts or wear it with jeans. And as it is normally super light - except for the texturized ones -, kimonos are the best travel buddies. You can wear it on a plane, on a boat to add a bit of glamour to your fabulous swimwear, or on a daily basis.

So many options! Yes and I haven't talk about the various lengths yet... Kimono exists in almost every lengths: short, mid-leg and long. They can fit any morphologies. So go buy one before it's too late!

For this post, I wanted to show you how to mix a long kimono, which are more tricky than the others, with a casual outfit. You'll also see how it takes a regular outfit - jeans, silk camisole and boots - to another level. Showstopper alert!

Here are all the tips and tricks to look amazing wearing a kimono!

#DETAILSMATTER

If this style inspires you and you want to reproduce it or part of it, here are some tricks and tips.

Choose your kimono carefully: To start, you should choose the right kimono. To do so, you have to pay attention to the fabric, the shape, and how it moves. When the fabric is light, it should float behind you when you're walking. Kind of a dramatic effect! Please when you choose your kimono, avoid the clichés. Translation: do not go 100% Asian in your inspiration.

Pay attention to the shades: When you create the silhouette, choose shades of color that wink to those of the kimono's fabric. For example, my kimono has nude shades. So when I composed this look, I selected a nude pink silk camisole and accessorized it with sunglasses of the same shades. This way it create an harmonious aesthetic. Not every element of the look should be linked to the colors of the kimono, but you should definitely make the details echo each other.

Twist, twist, twist it!: You remember when I said that all the elements composing the look shouldn't be related the kimono's shades, right? Good. Here is the reason why: these elements are the ones twisting the kimono and avoiding the clichés. For example, my genuine style is kind of "rock" - I hate putting my style in a box, but I'll do it for this explanation. So, I completed the look with studded black Chloé boots and dark grey jeans. These clearly contrast with the romantic aspect of the kimono.

What kind of hairstyle?: With a kimono, and more specifically a long one, you should adopt an elegant hairstyle to avoid the pajama/ "I just woke up" look. The easy option is the bun or semi-bun. You can wear it all day long and it is simple to create. If you are an expert in hairstyling, do whatever inspires you, but just keep in mind to remain elegant.

What about the makeup?: With a kimono, which already adds a lot of information to the silhouette, you better go for the simple and elegant options. I would recommend to do a nude makeup with a nice lipstick. You can choose a nude or a more contrasting one, like a bright red or pink.
