MOVING TO HONG KONG
So the Parisian kid moved to Hong Kong. As I mentioned it in my previous post, this is the new stop - or is it the next step? - in my life. Is it exciting ? Totally. Is it easy? No.
When taking lifestyle and life changing decision, you have to deal with tones of things and emotions that you're not used to. Obviously the saddest part is to leave my beloved ones behind - exactly seven hours behind in my case.
Other things I had to deal with ? So many actually! In a way, things in Hong Kong are quite easy to do or fix compared to what I experienced before. For example, finding and renting a flat was not that complicated. On the other hands, I did kind of 180* change. I took a risk and risk requires you to compose with the new environment and elements you live in. Isn't it? So yes, I am adapting to a new culture and to the fact that I can't read most of the signs. Some people here, which whom I discussed my choice to come live in Hong Kong, told me that I was brave. Personally, I see bravery in the decision. I had an opportunity and I took it. It is that simple in my mind.
I have always been independent and eager to live in countries that are culturally different from France. I lived in New York, Madrid and Warsaw before. I have never been afraid of leaving. I view every country that I lived or traveled in as a new experience helping me to grow. When you're 26, I feel that you're just at the beginning of all the learnings life has to offer. So yes, taking risks and not fearing change is part of this process.
Right now, the newbie, that I am, has just started to discover the many sides of Hong Kong. Last weekend, I went to Victoria Peak for a hike. The days before I tried new restaurants and did some culinary experiences. I also went to Macao. I am lucky. I found myself new friends that are eager to make me discover the city and its treasures. Among them, there are some that are originated from Hong Kong, who are adorable and willing to help me understand more the local culture.
An advantage of going out your confort zone is that you make new accointances that may, with time friends. So far, I am grateful to have found the people surrounding me in Hong Kong. As diverse as they can be, they all helped me in many ways. Some gave advice or good spots, others supported me when I was feeling stressed or sad. I feel thankful to have met them.
This being said, I also feel lucky for one particular thing. Travels! Hong Kong is perfectly located to discover different part of Asia. And you know that I am a globetrotter. I already made a list of all the places I would like to visit. So finger-crossed that I'll be able to discover them all and show them to you on the way. I am sure of something my path is never boring. So will you follow it ?
I hope so.
A.
