LE CAP FERRET: A WEEKEND BETWEEN PINE TREES & OCEAN

LE CAP FERRET: A WEEKEND BETWEEN PINE TREES & OCEAN

I believe I am lucky to be born in a country with so much history and amazing places. One of the places I cherish the most is Le Cap Ferret. Funny thing is I don't real have memories of the first time I went there. Only pictures. I was about one year-old and I first walked. I guess the feelings I have towards this lovely city are linked one way or another to this particular moment.

So when I was offered by my parents to come back to Le Cap Ferret twenty-four years later, I couldn't resist. I was so happy and excited. I was feeling that I was discovering a part of my past. Listening to my parents telling how things were the first time I went, was amazing.

As my parents come every year to Le Cap Ferret - without me, thanks guys! -, they also showed me some of the nicest places around. And guess what? I decided to compile them in this post for you!

Here are my favorite places at Le Cap Ferret!

HOT SPOTS

See

The Mimbeau: The famous sand strip of Arcachon's reservoir located in front of the Cap Ferret. Perfect to rest, get a nice tan and enjoy your moment.

The sunset on the beach: One of the thing I would recommend you is to go admire the sunset over the ocean. An amazing and wild landscape for a breath-taking moment. Priceless!

The oyster farmer's cabins: The Cap Ferret's region is well-known for its oyster farmers. When you hang there, you will see a lot of cabins owned by oyster farmers that they use to stock their garner. Absolutely authentic and poetic. You will feel a bit out-of-time.

Herbe: Herbe in French means grass. But in this case, Herbe is a village located next to the Cap Ferret. There you will be able to enjoy a meal - maybe oysters - in terrace, the views of the reservoir, the oyster farmers cabin. A really nice place to have a taste to the local specialties.

The Lighthouse: One of the particularities of the Cap Ferret is the lighthouse. Typical and still in activity, it helps the boats and the fisherman to negotiate the waters of the cape.

Eat

Chez Magne: Located at Herbe, this iconic, authentic and traditional restaurant is perfect for a lunch in terrace. There enjoy the oyster, the wine and the culinary specialties, such as fois gras or sardines. It fresh, good and tasteful! And the waiters are adorable. Basically, you will never want to leave!

Frédélian: The iconic bakery. It is well-known for its cannelé, the little pastries made of crepe batter. Delicious. I truly recommend it. The pastries are divine!

La Maison du Bassin: Cocktails lovers this one is for you! Perfect for a nice evening with friends, this restaurant serve one of my favorite course: the asparagus cappuccino. Yummy. The atmosphere is sophisticated without being stifling. A lovely place to create good memories.

La Cabane du Mimbeau: You want to have lunch with a view? Here is the place! The location is perfect. The owner are friendly and welcoming. And the food? Delicious. Perfect all the way !

Shop

If you want to do some shopping here are my two favorites: Jane de Boy and Bleu de Mer

Take your time: No need to rush! Le Cap Ferret is surrounded by water and pines. It is beautiful and welcoming. So take the time to appreciate the place, the people, the weather, to live the most of it. Just relax and enjoy your time.

Cradle of gastronomy : The Burgundy region, where Le Cap Ferret is located, is well know for its gastronomy. They have amazing fishes and meats, and very special recipes you will only find there. I truly recommend you go for the specialties when going to restaurants to discover the local gastronomy.

Rent a car and a bike! : To go to Le Cap Ferret, you'll probably arrive at the train station of Bordeaux. I recommend you rent a car to go to your destination. This way you don't depend on anyone and you can stop by the super nice places on the road. When you arrive in Le Cap Ferret, do yourself a favor: rent a bike. Everyone, locals and tourist, there are riding bike to go to the market, restaurants, beach... Basically to do everything! A must!
