POLKA DOTS & PINK LIPS: HOW TO CREATE A 60s INSPIRED MAKEUP STYLE
The 60s... When I think of this decade, I have some many images appearing in my mind. How people were dressed. How they were behaving. The arts. The 60s were the decade of The Beatles and Twiggy. At that time Great-Britain had a huge cultural influence on a global scale, more in particular with fashion and beauty. Girls were cutting their hair off to get short hairstyle and were wearing lots of colors. Basically, it was a times of freedom to experience lot of things! - Why am not born in the 60s? So unfair!
For this post, I decided to get inspired by the 60s. To experience a bit by creating a new makeup look. The best with makeup is: it allows you to enhance your beauty, your style and your personality. Yes darling, it is time to shine!
Let's talk about this beauty look, shall we? I am sure you can't wait for it -at least, I can't! Two of the main trends of the 60s were the polka dots and bright colors. So organically, I chose a bright pink matte lipstick for the retro aspect. The issue was the polka dots. How do I integrate those in the style? I struggled a bit. And then a miracle happened! I came up with the idea to replace my usual khôl under the eye by the polka dots made with eyeliner. Brilliant!
Remember: makeup should be fun! A great beauty style is one you play with! Fashion and beauty are made to express your personality, your creativity. So what a better way to do so than getting inspired by the best of the previous decades and play with it to create new styles and experiment. This is what I want you to remember of this whole post. Even if you don't like this makeup style - it's perfectly fine by the way my dear -, one of the reason I work on those posts is to pass this message - and I also like to get people attention!
So let's enhance our beauty without disguising it, shall we?
CREATE THIS LOOK... STEP-BY-STEP
First of all, to reproduce this style, you will need: a mascara, a bright pink matte lipstick, a nude eyeshadow and an eyeliner.
STEP 1: The first thing you have to do is your stain. I recommend to do a light and natural one that will just avoid your skin to shine too much.
STEP 2: Easy one! Apply the nude eyeshadow on the eyelids. The aim is to balance the color of your skin and to avoid transfer of mascara during the day.
STEP 3: Put the matte pink lipstick. Make sure you apply it homogeneously. To get an intense shade, don't hesitate to put it twice!
STEP 4: It's getting trickier... Apply the black eyeliner. The idea is to create a thin comma-shaped line on the eyelids. Don't go too hard on the cat eye! I recommend you to wait for the polka dots to enlarge the eyeliner line.
STEP 5: Here is the trickiest part of this look! You need to be patient and precise. Use a eyeliner to make the dots. Make sure they are spaced out. According to the size of your eyes the number of dots will vary. For example, I have wide eyes and I did six dots.
STEP 6: Finally put some black mascara...
... And you're good to go !

If this style inspires you and you want to reproduce it, here are some tricks and tips.
Do some strobing: A good makeup trick that you can use on a daily basis. Use a highlighter that corresponds to your skin tone on the T-zone of you face. I personally use it to lighten my forehead and top of the nose.
How to choose the shade of your lipstick?: I know this question may sound stupid. If it for you, it's probably because you know what kind of shades match your skin tone. Lucky you! For those, who need an answers to this question my answers will be simple: try severals. Why? Because everybody has different: skin tone, hair color, style, attitude,... Those will influence the shade that will suit you the best. For this look, you need a matte lipstick for the retro aspect. Pink may or may not be your color. If you're not comfortable, go for a bright red or a light orange. Oh and please don't be shy! Ask some piece of advice to the salesman or your friends, they will be more objective than you.
What about the clothes? : That's the best part! You can do whatever you want as long as you make sure the colors don't clash with the lipstick shade. As it is a retro-inspired makeup look, I recommend you go for tailored or texturized clothes. When I created this look, I picked the black velvet vichy top (as seen on the picture), high waist pants and high heels. If you prefer dresses or skirts, go for it! As long as you don't feel dressed up, this is a GO!
