GOLD EYESHADOWS & EYELINER: CREATE A STUDIO 54 INSPIRED LOOK

GOLD EYESHADOWS & EYELINER: CREATE A STUDIO 54 INSPIRED LOOK

When I decided to share with you, guys, beauty tips, I wanted to go off the beaten tracks and to create looks that are different. Looks that you can reproduce easily even if you are not into makeup. I am not a pro makeup artist. Since the beginning of 4AM JOURNAL, I have always credited the people involved in the pictures. You may have noticed that no makeup artist were mentioned for the creation of the previous styles shown on my blog, and the reason is that I made all the makeup looks by myself. And it will be continuing this way when it comes to showing you inspiring makeups.

This being said, let me introduce you to the first beauty style of 4AM JOURNAL. For this particular one, as it is Christmas and New Year's Eve time, I wanted to create a party, festive look. So, I tried to think about what elements were related, in my mind, to the celebration theme. These came up: gold, contrast, textures, extravagant and a little bit of sassiness.

When I was trying to find some inspiration, I was wondering what or who would corresponds to the elements previously mentioned. The Studio 54 was an obvious choice, especially concerning the sassiness!

For those, who are wondering what is the god damn Studio 54, just google Bianca Jagger - Yeah Mick's ex-wife!, on a horse! You'll totally visualize my point. Basically, Studio 54 was the place to party in NYC when you were somebody in the end of the 70s. This club was iconic! - and still is by the way!

I got inspired by this era when I created this makeup style. Here is a dramatic look, perfect for celebrations. It's all about the eyes! Major side eye alert!

CREATE THIS LOOK... STEP-BY-STEP

First of all, to reproduce this style, you will need: an eyeliner, two shades of gold eyeshadows, a black pencil or khôl and a black mascara. Told you contrast!

STEP 1: The first thing you have to do is your stain. I recommend to do a light and natural one that will just avoid your skin to shine too much.

STEP 2: Start by putting some black khôl or pencil under the eyes. I chose khôl for its intensity and thick texture. The intensity of the look is up to you! Just remember that the more you put black under your eyes, the more you'll have an intense look.

STEP 3: Select the clearer shade of eyeshadow. Spread it on the eyelid, from the inside to the outside. Make sure you put enough of it to allow the light to reflect.

STEP 4: Take the second eyeshadow. Put it on the eyelid, from the middle to the outside. To avoid to have two separated spots of colors, shade off the mid-section of the eyelid. The idea is to create a gradation, exactly like a regular smokey eye. Do not be afraid to put some more eyeshadow on the outside of the eyelid to intensify the contrast.

STEP 5: Draw a thin eyeliner line just over the basis of the lashes. The idea is to amplify the intensity of the look. It shall not be too large. It has to be subtile and to allow the eyeshadows game to be visible. Too much eyeliner will make it disappear. The line has to go from the inside of the eyelid to the end of the eyebrow arch.

STEP 6: This is the tricky part! You might need to rectify the curve with some makeup remover on a cotton bud. You have to draw a curve following the lower side of the eyebrow arch. The eyeliner line should be as thin as the first one. I recommend to start by the upper part of the curve and then to go down to reach the first line.

STEP 7: Finalize the beauty style by putting on the mascara on the lashes.

And...you're good to go !

If this style inspires you and you want to reproduce it, here are some tricks and tips.

Careful with the black khôl: When you put some black khôl or black pencil under the eyes, you have to be careful with the thick texture. Especially when you have to wear it for a long time! The texture might evolve and spread a bit under the lower eye lashes. This effect might give you a tired aspect. I recommend to not hesitate to retouch your makeup and take off a bit of the texture that overspread.

How to shade off the eyeshadows when you don't know how to use brushes?: Use your fingers! It is that simple. You can spread the eyeshadows by putting some of it on your index. Use again the index to shade off the two colors, by making some small circles at the junction of the two eyeshadows.

Do some strobing: A good makeup trick that you can use on a daily basis. Use a highlighter that corresponds to your skin tone on the T-zone of you face. I personally use it to lighten my forehead and top of the nose.

What if you don't like gold shades?: You can use every metallic shades you want: silvers, coppers or bronzes. The most important thing is that you use two distinct shades that are from the same color family.
