MONTAUK'S HOT SPOT: THE SURF LODGE
Whenever you travel around the world, you always have the temptations to visit iconic regions, areas, places. Am I right? Sounds like it! When it comes to the state of New York, there is one spot who's almost as famous as the City: The Hamptons. It is probably one of the few places to be during summertime in the US - at least that's my opinion!
The Hamptons are the place where all the people - aka the New Yorkers - flee every weekend during summertime to get fresh air and refresh their minds - causing humongous traffic. I lived in New York City in the past, so trust me when I say you don't want to be there during a heatwave, unless you want to know what it is to be in a microwave!
Have you ever heard of Southampton, Amagansett and Montauk? If yes, good job my dear! If no, no worries just follow the guide. Last summer, I was luck enough to hang in New York City. And we had this genius idea - ok I was talking so much about it, my people decided to take me there to shut my mouse! : to rent a car to go to Montauk!
Since I heard about Montauk about 6 years ago, I always wanted to go there. And that's what we did, during an epic ride across The Hamptons. Fantastic. If you ever decide the same thing, open your eyes because the landscapes are amazing. It is quite a long ride - especially if this is the first or second time you drive in the US - but 100% worth it! Epic told you!
As you may know by now, I am a total planning freak. So obviously, I had spotted places I wanted to go. One of them was the iconic Surf Lodge. Built in 1967, the Surf Lodge is a colorful property located near Montauk's beacon. There you can eat, shop, have drinks, book a room and party! All in one!
When you visit Montauk, you have to try one the culinary specialties: the lobster roll. And you know what? The Surf Lodge's one is YUMMY! I went there to have lunch and to chill on the cutest "beach" - the spot where everything goes crazy at sundown! The chill atmosphere, the design interior, the food, the general concept make the Surf Lodge a must-go spot in the Hamptons.
If you need any more reasons to go to the Surf Lodge. Here are all the details you need to know about it.
#DETAILSMATTER
An amazing concept: When I say it an amazing concept, I mean it is really amazing. Everything is made to make you stay and relaxed. Everyone will find what it likes at the Surf Lodge. If you want to chill, take a drink and rest in the sand. If you are a fashionista, go to the Surf Bazaar, the super nice and edgy shop. You are an hopeless romantic? Book a room! You are the life of the party? Come with friends at sundown. You love to eat super nice and simple food? The restaurant is made for you!
Atmosphere, atmosphere...: Chill. This the word I would pick to define the atmosphere of the Surf Lodge. Everything from the perfect location, the interior design, the playlist to the beach is made to be peaceful and chill. You will feel like home. Kind of boho too, but not outrageously. Perfect to relax and have fun for a couple of days!
What about the food?: As I mentioned previously, the main attraction is the lobster roll. But if you are not a lobster-kind-of-person, no worries you will always find something delicious to eat. At the restaurant, the food is simple, but super nice. And this is always a good combo, trust me !
And the service?: First of all, the service in the US is often super nice compared to other places in Europe - hello Paris this one is for you ! At the Surf Lodge, the service is at the image of the place: nice, polite and relaxed. You will feel no rush there. But you won't have to wait for hours either. Everything is in the timing! Oh, and don't forget the tips!
Ride or die: To go to Montauk, and the Hamptons in general, there are only three options: take the train, go by car or... helicopter. What?! You don't have an helicopter! - kidding if I had one, I wouldn't be writing this words at the moment, I would be having fun with it! To be more serious - yes I can be... sometimes -, I recommend you rent a car or find someone to drive you there. It is so much more beautiful and genuine. And you can always stop to see things you like!
Beach, beacon & museum: In the Hamptons, there are three main attractions, apart from shopping - hello fashionistas! First, there is the beach: wild and splendid. If the beach is not your thing, go see the beacon. Or discover the Parrish Art Museum, which gathers some of the most amazing masterpieces of Popart - fans of Roy Lichtenstein this one is for you!
