CHANNELING THE INNER TOMBOY

It is clearly not the first time that I write about using some menswear in an outfit. However, I have never talked about it accessories-wise.

You know how important I believe accesories and details are to twist and improve a somewhat common or classic outfit. Therefore, I thought it could be interesting to discuss that matter in a post.

Using unisex or men accessories, such as sunglasses or jewelry is something I always do. Who never dreamt to possess a beautiful men’s watch ? A love men or unisex stuff because they are not quite adapted to a feminine body shape. The twist is always super interesting. It's loose, oversized. But don't get me wrong, if those items are styled badly, you'll end up looking gross.

The key is to create balance. Balance between the proportions is what will me the outfit work. Concerning the accessories, you definitely need "own" the fact that they may not match your natural bone structure. They are meant to be disruptive. To create depth. People should look at you twice when they see you because they notice something different.

The accessory can be a statement one. However, I do prefer when it's more subtil. I guess I like to keep people guessing what is different. The subtlety is even better because it means that the outfit is harmonious. Accessories kind of blend in, while remaining powerful enough to make your silhouette edgy.

In the look, I composed to illustrate this post. I played with unisex sunglasses to help me give the edge and style I wanted to an already-tomboyish outfit. The sunglasses are quite rectangular and a bit disproportionate compared to the width of my face, making them stand out. Another striking detail is the opacity of the gold lenses. They are not mirror ones, but smoked one. Less tacky, but still people can't see my eyes, giving a strange and mysterious shade to the whole outfit.

I aimed to have a sharp outfit without excessive details, but you could definitely match those sunglasses with crazier items to have a more rococo edge. As long as the outfit remains coherent and balanced, you'll get a really nice result using unisex or men accessories.

Love,

A.
