90s THROWBACK: RIPPED JEANS, OVERSIZED SHIRT & CROPPED TOP
Born in the 90s, my first interactions with style were done thanks to the movies, soaps and artists of this era. It was grungy, fun, sometimes totally a mess, but overall the rules were made to be broken. We all have iconic images of people influencing the 90s: Kurt Cobain, the Supermodels, Madonna, Uma Thurman & John Travolta in Pulp Fiction or Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands. In a way, they all influenced fashion and fashion influenced them.
Some people says that the 90s were the decade of vulgarity and bad taste. You may agree with this statement. Personally, I don't. Why? First of all, fashion is in some way a representation of the society and its needs. In the 90s, people were seeking the limits, burning themselves in the process, but they wanted to set new rules. Secondly, I see fashion as a freeing experience that allows you to express different shades of your personality. So would I say that the 90s fashion was my favorite one? Probably not. However, as it still influence nowadays fashion, I would say that taking some elements and adapting them to your current style and lifestyle is powerful.
So to help you envision this idea, I styled a 90s silhouette. Obviously, I selected clothes that are iconic to me, such as the oversized shirt worn as a jacket, the ripped jeans or the cropped top. You may have different preferences and you may know better the 90s style than I do - shame on me for that! Then go for what makes you feel comfortable and confident.
So unleash the 90s kiddo! Here is my way to style a 90s-influenced outfit!

If this style inspires you and you want to reproduce it or part of it, here are some tricks and tips.
Be carefully with proportions: In order to style an harmonious silhouette, you have to pay attention to the proportions. You may wear a cropped top. If that's so, you need to tone it a bit down to with an oversized shirt or a long jacket and high waist jeans - you don't want people looking at their belly button instead of your eyes while talking to you! Nah! No way! The job of the shirt and the jeans, if not to add coolness, is to avoid vulgarity. That's the goal and that's also what is difficult about wearing a 90s look in nowadays society - especially when you're Paris. Major side eyes! It is super easy to cross the thin line of vulgarity. Good proportions are a super easy way to avoid it.
Twist your outfit: How should you wear 90s-influenced silhouette? One answer: with a twist! But not every twist, the one that will make the outfit contemporary. Unless, you want to look like Marty from Back to the Future II but without Doc! That's your choice my darling! Just be true to yourself. Don't impersonate someone else! So how do I twist, my outfit this time? With leather high-heeled boots. Classic but with the rest of the look, it's kind of rock.
Pay attention to the accessories: When styling this outfit, I selected a vintage necklace, a black cashmere beanie, earrings and a bright yellow clutch. To add a bit of eccentricity and fun, I chose a Looney Tunes printed bag. Concerning the jewels, I choose to go with silver earrings and necklace. The beanie has to be loose and casual, like if you just grabbed it one your way out. This idea is to create a bit of a mess. As I wanted to give a grungy shade to this silhouette, I needed a little chaos going on. A perfectly controlled outfit is not grungy or 90s. Just keep in mind the kind of look you want. This is your guideline when creating it.
What about the make up?: You know what's good about this outfit? You can choose whatever make-up style you want, as long as it simple and intense. I choose to do a clear stain with dark khôl and mascara. I wanted my eyes to be intensified. You can also go with a nude make-up. Just remember that with nude, your stain must be impeccable!
